The Gas Content and Stripping of Local Group Dwarf Galaxies

چکیده

The gas content of the complete compilation Local Group dwarf galaxies (119 within 2 Mpc) is presented using HI survey data. Within virial radius Milky Way (224 kpc here), 53 55 are devoid to limits M$_{\rm HI}<10^4$ M$_\odot$. M31 (266 kpc), 27 30 (with typically $<10^5$ M$_\odot$). Beyond radii and M31, majority have detected masses higher than limits. When relationship between distance investigated a radius, more non-detected this (85$\pm1$ 93 galaxies) M31. Using Gaia proper motion measurements available for 38 galaxies, minimum density required completely strip them calculated. Halo densities $10^{-5}$ $5 \times 10^{-4}$ cm$^{-3}$ instantaneous stripping at perigalacticon. compared halo with expectations from simulations observations, 80% motions consistent being stripped by ram pressure pericenter. results suggest diffuse gaseous galactic medium important in quenching that also potentially plays role.

Gas Stripping of Dwarf Galaxies in Clusters of Galaxies

Many clusters of galaxies contain an appreciable amount of hot gas, the intracluster medium. As a consequence, gas will be stripped from galaxies that move through the inter cluster medium, if the ram pressure exceeds the internal gravitational force. We study the interaction between the intracluster medium and an extended gas component of dwarf galaxies confined by a surrounding cold dark matt...

Dwarf Galaxies of the Local Group

XMM-Newton and Chandra have ushered in a new era for the study of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group. We provide an overview of the opportunities, challenges, and some early results. The large number of background sources relative to galaxy sources is a major theme. Despite this challenge, the identification of counterparts has been possible, providing hints that the same mechanisms producing X-...

Light - weight Local Group Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies

A simple and natural explanation for the dynamics and morphology of the Local Group Dwarf Spheroidal galaxies, Draco (Dra) and Ursa Minor (UMi), is that they are weakly unbound stellar systems with no significant dark matter component. A gentle, but persistent, Milky Way (MW) tide has left them in their current kinematic and morphological state. This short paper reviews the parametric tidal int...

Local Group Dwarf Galaxies and the Fundamental Manifold of Spheroids

The fundamental manifold (FM), an extension of the fundamental plane formalism, incorporates all spheroid-dominated stellar systems from dwarf ellipticals up to the intracluster stellar populations of galaxy clusters by accounting for the continuous variation of the mass-to-light ratio within the effective radius re with scale. Here, we find that Local Group dwarf spheroidal and dwarf elliptica...

Formation Histories of Dwarf Galaxies in the Local Group

We compare the properties of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group with the simulated galaxies formed before reionization in a cosmological simulation of unprecedented spatial and mass resolution. We find that a subset of the Local Group dwarfs are remarkably similar to the simulated dwarf galaxies in all their properties. Based on this similarity, we propose the hypothesis that Local Group dwarfs ...
